Artisans bowled over by Ellon

By Chris the cricketing Correspondent

Ellon entertained Artisans at Gordon Park, on winning the toss Ellon opted to field and this looked like a good decision considering the lively looking pitch.

Ross Wade got the early breakthrough removing danger man Graeme Golder for 0 when he was caught behind by Andy Parks.

Alan Forsyth joined Steve Dickie and these batsmen put on 40 runs for the 2nd wicket then Jon Barrett struck.  He fooled Dickie into leaving his crease and Andy Parks did the rest.  Barrett struck again soon after when he had Munro bowled by his quicker delivery.

Ross Wade was brought back into the attack to try and remove Forsyth who was starting to look dangerious, after accumulating 45 runs he was bowled by Wade.

Chris Watson was introduced into the attack and he immediately responded by bowling Chisholm with only his 2nd ball.  Watson picked up the next wicket when he was Calder easily caught at slip by Frank Francis.  Watson also removed the next batsman Stewart with a delivery that pitch and turned to which the batsman had no reply and was bowled.

Frank Francis finished off the innings by picking up his first 2 wickets for the club.  Frank has had “no luck” so far when bowling has been concerned but he showed what he can do when he clean bowled Ritchie and only a couple of balls later he bowled Tanner.  Wickets are like busses, you wait ages for one and two come at the same time!

After a fine tea provided by the Station Hotel, Andy Churchill and makeshift opener Scott Middleton went out to knock off the total.

Unfortunatly it did not go to plan as Middleton was bowled by Forsyth, Jon Barrett replaced Middleton and was soon in his stride.  The pair put on 64 runs before Churchill retired hurt.

Local rugby star Kerry Williams joined Barrett but it was not long before Barrett was out when he tried to hit Forsyth out of the ground and he was bowled for 35.

A mini collapse occurred when Forsyth removed Anderson, Watson and Parks but this did not stop Williams as he hit all bowlers to every part of the ground in his 28 not out which included five 4’s and a 6.  Williams finished the match with a textbook 4 as Ellon stormed to victory with 5 wickets remaining.

Ellon travel to Kintore next week knowing an excellent performance is required to upset the league leaders.
